Whale Watch

On August 4, 2005 we went on a whale watch on the Hurricane II out of Gloucester, MA. We headed towards Jeffrey's Ledge and soon found a pair of Fin Back Whales. After spending a few minutes with them we headed off in search of other whales. In a few minute,  found a Humpback, and soon thereafter another Humpback Whale. This second Humpback was identified by his tail fin markings as "Hornbill", a whale that has been sighted on Jeffrey's Ledge since 1977! We got several good looks at this whale as he surfaced near the boat and raised his tail as he dove. Throughout the trip we saw lots of pelagic birds including Greater and Sooty Shearwater, Wilson Storm Petrel and Northern Gannet. We also saw several Minke Whales feeding near the Humpbacks. It was a great trip and we capped it off with a great seafood dinner at the Causeway Restaurant in Gloucester.
